SCHOOL BUDGET REJECTED BY ATLANTIC CITY SCHOOL BOARD

On Monday the Atlantic City school board voted 7-3 to reject the proposed budget for the upcoming school year that would cut 223 jobs. The new budget proposed cost cuts of $17 million that would increase student/teacher ratios through layoffs. At the public hearing, attended by about 50 people, state monitor Gary McCartney told the board members he would take their decision under advisement, as he has the power to overrule their vote.
