A bill was signed into law to provide people more time to sign up for school board elections. The law changes the deadline for school board candidates to file petitions to the last Monday in July. Previously, candidates had to file by 4 pm on the day of the primary, held in June. The bill sponsored by Senator Jim Whelan was signed by Gov. Chris Christie. The law goes into effect Jan. 1.
