Workers in New Jersey’s fishing industry have not been helped by the trimmed-down legislation passed last week by the U.S. Congress. The Northeast is hoping for aid from the additional $51 billion package coming up for a vote on Jan. 15th, to help offset losses by fishing boat employees, truck drivers, fish-processing plants and other related industries. The U.S. Commerce Department had declared a fishery resource disaster for New Jersey and New York shortly after Hurricane Sandy, but Congress needs to approve the dollar amounts before distribution can begin.
