Many people throughout our region felt mysterious vibrations Thursday with no clear explanation of its source. The shaking was felt in numerous locations in Cape May and Atlantic counties as reported by many on social media, at around 11 am with a second incident at approximately 1 pm. There was no reported seismic activity on the East Coast Thursday, ruling out an earthquake, but many have speculated the disturbances may have been caused by military jet exercises conducted offshore. A Facebook post Tuesday from the Naval Air Station Patuxent River based in St. Mary’s County MD issued a noise advisory saying the U.S. naval station would be conducting “noise-generating testing events” between Tuesday and Friday.
