The National Weather Service is advising residents and visitors to avoid a swim in the ocean this weekend. Powerful storm Hurricane Earl will remain far offshore, but strong rip currents are expected on local New Jersey beaches. Swells for Saturday could produce waves in the four to six foot range; if the swells go to eight feet, a High Surf Advisory will be issued. The service says it’s a good idea to especially avoid the swim in the ocean Sunday and Monday, when rip currents will be at their strongest. The storm poses no threat to our local coastline.
