Even though Tropical Storm Leslie is far off the east coast, it’s effects are being felt along the Jersey Shore. On Tuesday afternoon, Leslie was more than 500 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, but deteriorating surf conditions caused the lifeguards to suspend all bathing until further notice. Lifeguard crews are greatly reduced at local beaches after Labor Day. The Atlantic City beach patrol force has been reduced by two thirds and only 11 beaches are being patrolled. In Cape May, more than half of it’s lifeguards have left and this Sunday will be the final day that lifeguards will be on full-time duty in the resort.
