REVIEW SHOWS AB– USE IN AID FROM TROPICAL STORM IRENE

Last August tropical storm Irene caused power outages to nearly 2 million homes in New Jersey and caused wind damage and flooding. A new report says nearly one in five (18%) people who filed for the federal disaster food-aid program were not eligible. The State Human Services Department reviewed nearly 300 cases and discovered the abuse. About 17,000 people filed for the food assistance in Atlantic County. Officials there say they will prosecute anyone who fraudulently applied for benefits.
