The Cape May County Public Works Association hosted the annual Snow Plow Rodeo on October 19, 2010 at the Naval Air Station Wildwood located at the Cape May County Airport, 1280 Langley Road in Erma. There were twenty-three entries in this year’s event representing Cape May County departments, local municipalities and other agencies.
Freeholder Director Dan Beyel said, “The main objective of the rodeo is to promote safety and constructive competition while preparing equipment and operators for the upcoming winter season.”
Teams competed in three different categories; Class A – vehicles under 15,000 pounds, Class B – vehicles between 15,000 and 26,000 pounds and Class C – vehicles over 26,000 pounds. The following are the winners of the 2010 Snow Plow Rodeo.
Best of Show: Borough of Avalon – Cary Lawson and Ernest Blood
First Place:
Class A – Upper Township – Ed Carter and John Kohler
Class B – Borough of Avalon – Cary Lawson and James Wolford
Class C – Borough of Avalon – Ernest Blood and Mike Dean
Second Place:
Class A – Stone Harbor – Aaron April and Levin Oakley
Class B – Upper Township – Jeremy Williams and Ray Armstrong
Class C – Middle Township – John Olivia and George Spaulding
Third Place:
Class A – Stone Harbor – Craig Reeves and Grant Russ
Class B – Cape May County Road Department – Bill Cook and Tom Squires
Class C – Facilities and Services – Rick Tozer and Don O’Neill
Harry Wozunk, President of the Cape May County Public Works Association, added, “The men look forward to the rodeo each year which gives them an opportunity to show their skills and earn recognition for their departments as well.”
