Cape May County Assemblyman Nelson Albano will be investigated by a legislative ethics panel over his controversial encounter with a State Trooper during a traffic stop. The Star Ledger reports that the Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards voted unanimously to investigate Albano’s conduct during the traffic stop that occurred in 2012. After the stop Albano requested an investigation into Trooper Randy Pangborn and suggested in a letter that the trooper had been disrespectful. But a dashboard video of the traffic stop showed that the trooper was respectful and Albano had asked the trooper for a break. The issue has been underscored by a contentious campaign season in our First District where the traffic stop has been used in advertisements to target Albano by republican challengers.
