A petition now has over 200 signatures on it; the petition attempts to save a portion of the Beesley’s Point Bridge for local fishermen. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the fishermen want a portion of the Upper Township bridge saved to fish for striped bass and winter flounder. The bridge dates back to the 1920’s and is slated for demolition to make room for a new bridge for the Garden State Parkway. A contract to authorize the demolition of the bridge could be awarded in March.
