A new so called “pay to play” ordinance has been introduced in Upper Township. The Upper Township Gazette reports that the township committee approved a new ordinance on first reading this week that will ban large contributions from contractors to local candidates who are running for office. The township is taking this step to help improve its score on the state’s “best practices checklist”. Township Solicitor Dan Young says the checklist asks communities to have a tougher “pay to play” law than the one mandated by the state.
