A new report today suggests that 600 police officers could be laid off in the Garden State by the end of June. A new report issued by New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association suggests that hundreds of police officers in many New Jersey communities will lose their jobs by the end of June, including some in Cape May County. The association says there have already been 67 layoffs of police officers during the first five months of 2010 due to tough economic conditions. The association fears that if Governor Chris Christie’s 2.5 percent property tax cap is enacted in 2011, more layoffs will follow.
