A controversial new report published by the Star Ledger over the weekend reports that the average New Jersey police officer is paid an average of 80 percent more than the average New Jersey resident. The report also says that 30 percent of all cops in New Jersey earn at least $100,000 annually, and over 6,100 municipal police officers in New Jersey earned six figure salaries last year. The median salary for the state’s 20,000-plus police officers is in excess of $90,000 a year. Cape May County cops rank 13th in the state in terms of median police pay.
