A report over the weekend suggests that the Lower Township Police Department is being asked to cut nearly a half million dollars from its 2011 budget. A report in the Press of Atlantic City says that the police department has been asked to trim $400,000 from its budget for next year. Township Manager Kathy McPherson says that there have been no layoff notices given to the police department; the township is facing a $1 million shortfall next year. Police Chief Edward Donohue has long lobbied for more police officers on patrol in the community. Donohue himself plans on stepping down next year.
