The replacement of metal pipe under Reeds Beach Road, County Road No. 655, started this week. Cape May County Engineer Dale Foster said, “General contractor, Walters Marine Construction, Inc. began the rehabilitation of the corrugated metal pipe culvert under Reeds Beach Road with the installation of steel sheeting along both sides of the road in the area of the existing culvert.” The project is scheduled to be completed by late November 2011.
Reed’s Beach Road is the only access for the Middle Township community. Therefore; traffic will be maintained through the work zone at all times. During work hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane and will be controlled by flaggers. During non-working hours, both travel lanes will be open to traffic.
Foster said, “Due to the condition of the existing culvert, the road was weight restricted to 14 ton vehicles preventing Middle Township from proceeding with the resurfacing of North Beach Avenue.”
