The Board of Public Utilities approved a rate increase for South Jersey Gas on Tuesday. The new rate will cause the average gas bill to rise by $8.44 per month. A spokesperson for the utility said the increase was needed due to unusually high natural gas demand and prices in the Northeast during the past winter. In addition to this “pass-through cost”, the company says they spent addition funds on information technology systems and infrastructure.
