Avalon’s Borough Council will host a public meeting to discuss recent scientific research on Avalon’s beaches on Thurs., July 8, 7 p.m. in the Avalon council meeting room, Avalon Borough Hall, 3100 Dune Drive. Meeting is open to the media.
Dr. Karl Nordstrom, a professor at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University, will be the guest speaker. Dr. Nordstrom conducts research on the dynamic processes affecting the size, shape, and location of beaches and dunes in ocean and estuarine environments.
His research has been documented in dozens of science books and publications. Dr. Nordstrom has conducted significant scientific research on the Avalon beach system and will present his findings to the public for the first time at this meeting.
His research included various means to develop manmade dunes that are aesthetically pleasing while also providing the protection to lives and property. He will discuss ways to enhance the overall health of Avalon’s vibrant beach and dune system.
