More than 100 people showed up Tuesday night for the public hearing on whether or not to renew the operating permit for the B.L. England Generating Station in Upper Township. Protesters gathered outside the meeting at the Upper Township Municipal Building calling for the plant to be shut down. The Department of Environmental Protection has not set a date for their decision on the renewal of the plant’s five-year permit. The N.J. Board of Public Utilities has approved the plant converting to natural gas, but faces a lawsuit by the Sierra Club.
