Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor says the Lower Township Council has violated the state’s Open Public Meetings Act by exchanging emails to conduct official township business, namely the hiring of Township Manager Mike Voll. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Taylor wrote a letter to council telling members that they violated the Sunshine Law by discussing the hiring of Voll via email and not before the public. Taylor wrote a letter to council earlier this month. Taylor has told council that it faces penalties if this practice of conducting business through email continues.
