A new poll taken by Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Press shows that the majority of New Jersey residents do not believe public safety has been compromised by budget cuts. The new survey released Wednesday shows that the majority of residents do not support the mergers of local municipal police departments. 52 percent of New Jersey residents oppose any plan for countywide police departments. Only 20 percent of poll respondents say cuts in public safety have made their town less safe.
