Lower Township’s Council was hoping to vote on a new police contract, but that did not happen on Monday night. The on-going negotiations with the police department netted no new contract being agreed to. The PBA voted down the latest offer by the council and no agreement could be reached on Monday. Lower Township’s Council did promote Brian Marker to acting police chief as of July 1. Current Chief Ed Donohue will be retiring as of that date. Any new deal done between the police and council in Lower Township will now likely take place under new regulations that are being passed to change pension and health benefits by public workers.
