A vehicle hit a pedestrian in Egg Harbor Township resulting in fatal injuries. Police there say a 2009 Chevy Malibu operated by Shannon M. Helwig, 20 years of age from Cape May Court House, was travelling east on the Black Horse Pike and struck the pedestrian after a near miss by another motorist. The pedestrian, Marco Benegas (51 years of age from Pleasantville), suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The roadway near the Risley Commons was shut down for about three hours after the 10 p.m. Wednesday accident. Police are investigating and trying to find the near miss driver.
