The controversial natural gas pipeline that would extend through the Pinelands to a power plant in Upper Township is not happening. The Pinelands Commission voted on Friday to reject the plan. The actual vote was a 7-7 tie, and eight votes were needed in order for the motion to pass. South Jersey Gas says it’s disappointed at the outcome of the vote, and now will review its options as it moves forward. Supporters of the pipeline say it would have been environmentally-friendly since coal would no longer be used at the power plant.
