It’s life in prison but no exposure to the death penalty for a convict who killed a Philadelphia police officer nearly three decades ago. Officials announced today that they will not seek the death penalty for Mumia Abu-Jamal who killed Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner in December, 1981. The announcement means that Abu-Jamal will spend the rest of his life behind bars and not be put to death. A federal court had ordered a new sentencing hearing.
