The Avalon Department of Public Works will reconstruct a section of the Borough’s boardwalk this winter. The initial reconstruction phase will begin during the week of January 10th, 2011.
The Borough will tear down and rebuild a section of the Avalon boardwalk from 22nd to 24th streets. All of the walkway planks and railings will be removed, and replaced. This section of the Avalon boardwalk will be closed to the public for safety reasons until the project is completed. There will be some heavy equipment and construction materials in the vicinity of the boardwalk reconstruction project.
“We will definitely have this section of the Avalon boardwalk reconstructed in time for the warmer weather”, said Avalon Public Works Director Bill Macomber. “The completion schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions. We continue to save money by doing this project in-house, and I think residents and visitors will be pleased with the new section of boardwalk”.
The Avalon Department of Public Works recently rebuilt a section of the boardwalk in front of Community Hall, the playground, and the parking lot.
If there are favorable weather conditions this winter, it is possible another block of boardwalk between 21st and 22nd streets will also be reconstructed. This additional block would result in the Avalon Department of Public Works complete reconstruction of the Avalon boardwalk from 32nd Street north to 21st Street.
