On Wednesday Atlantic City Council introduced an ordinance to raise fines for parking lot operators who raise their rates at random. The “price gouging” issue was created when casino parking lots were found to be charging up to $50 to park during the free beach concerts this summer. The ordinance would raise the maximum fine from $100 to $1,000 for not informing the city of parking rate increases at least 48 hours in advance. A mandatory court appearance was also included in the first reading of the ordinance, which passed unanimously.
