PARENT COMPANY OF SUPERFRESH GOES BANKRUPT

The parent company that owns and operates four Superfresh supermarkets in southern New Jersey has filed for bankruptcy protection.  A&P has made the application in bankruptcy court; it currently owns four Superfresh markets in South Jersey, along with some Pathmarks.  A&P, also known as the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, has been in discussions to sell off a large portion of its supermarket chain to stay afloat.
