It looks like the State of New Jersey has lost $12 million due to an accounting error. The state auditor announced today that New Jersey missed out on $12 million in savings after it ended the practice of mandatory safety inspections on vehicles two years ago. The state was supposed to reduce $3.24 from the bill on each auto inspection, but that never happened, which cost New Jersey millions of dollars. No change to the rate was made once the safety inspections dropped.
