OLYMPIAN JOE MALOY WINS ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ TRIATHLON

On Sunday, nearly 2,000 amateur and professional athletes competed in the 36th Annual Escape from Alcatraz™ Triathlon in San Francisco and Wildwood Crest native Joe Maloy crossed the finish line in first place. It was Maloy’s first time in the event, which starts at Alcatraz Island with a 1.5 mile swim, then an 18-mile bike ride and eight-mile run through San Francisco. Maloy, who will race in the Olympics this summer, pulled ahead in the last half mile to win the race by just 11 seconds.
