On Tuesday evening a SpaceX capsule splashed-down to Earth from the International Space Station, containing an experiment by six Ocean City High School student scientists and their advisers. The Student Spaceflight Experiment Program allowed them to launch an original experiment analyzing the effect of microgravity on the attachment rate of E. coli bacteria to lettuce cells. The students will have to wait until Tuesday to analyze the results by comparing their control to the one sent to space. Science teacher and program adviser Dan Weaver says that the students are considering a trip to Washington, D.C. this summer for a convention at the Smithsonian to share their findings with participants from across the country.
