On Monday four Ocean City High School science students were recognized for an experiment they conducted in conjunction with astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Congressman Frank LoBiondo presented certificates to the students in honor of their research to determine the attachment rate of E.coli bacteria to lettuce in zero gravity. The results of the experiment showed that the attachment rate was actually greater in space than on Earth. The experiment was part of the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program, and was sent to the space station in January, after the first attempt failed in October when the rocket carrying their experiment blew up shortly after take-off.
