Lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle are blasting a proposal to increase the fuel tax by 23 cents per gallon in order to finance the Transportation Trust Fund. Democrats say an increase in the gas tax for an estate tax cut is a “shell game”, while republicans say the deal doesn’t seem fair. The GOP also says New Jersey has competitive fuel prices compared to other states and will lose that edge if the gas tax goes up.
