U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) today announced that the City of North Wildwood Fire Department will receive $61,465 in federal funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. This is the department’s second AFG award with $61,659 previously announced in 2004.
“This is good news for the City of North Wildwood Fire Department whose firefighters tirelessly work to keep the community safe day and night,” said LoBiondo, a member of the Congressional Fire Caucus. “Given the critical need for additional resources of our local first responders, I will continue to strongly support the AFG program.”
“On the behalf of the North Wildwood Fire Department, I am extremely grateful that we have been chosen to receive this grant,” said North Wildwood Fire Department Fire Chief Jeffrey B. Cole Sr. “We can now purchase new personal protective clothing that must be replaced due to age and condition. Providing the best level of protection for our firefighters is my ultimate responsibility so they can be confident in their equipment while providing the level of protection to our residents and visitors.”
In total, 118 organizations in the 2nd Congressional district have been awarded more than $23.9 million since the program began in 2001.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards grants directly to fire departments and emergency services to support their efforts to protect the communities they serve. The Fiscal Year 2010 program will distribute $390 million to first responder organizations across the country to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources required to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
