Commissioners with the New Jersey Turnpike voted Tuesday to end the free EZ Pass courtesy extended to turnpike workers. The commissioners reacted to a scathing report in which the Turnpike was highly criticized for mismanagement of its own finances. The commissioners also decided to halt the practice of sick day carry overs and eliminated bonuses for non-union employees. The state issued a report suggesting there was $43 million in waste in the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. These new changes go into effect at the end of 2010.
