Get an E-Z Pass violation in the mail when you know you had money in the account? A new law signed by Governor Phil Murphy on Thursday is meant to fix that. The Turnpike Authority, which oversees the NJ Turnpike, and the Garden State Parkway and the South Jersey Transportation Authority which maintains the Atlantic City Expressway, will now be required to check E-Z Pass records to see if an unpaid toll is from a vehicle that has an active E-Z Pass account before sending a costly $50 violation. In cases where the E-Z Pass equipment fails to register properly, drivers with active accounts will now only be responsible for the cost of the missed toll and not the extra penalty.
