NEW VERIZON DEAL COULD IMPACT LANDLINE CUSTOMERS

A new deal expected to be approved this week could hurt Verizon landline customers in rural sections of the state, including Cumberland County.  The deal could result in significant rate hikes for landline customers in these rural areas as much as 36 percent over five years.  Some elected officials in rural communities say this is a bad deal for their communities, but state regulators are expected to approve the plan.
