It’s possible some school districts in New Jersey may soon be allowed to close for Diwali, a festival celebrated by Indian-Americans. Assemblyman Upedra Chivukula has introduced a bill that would allow school districts with a high number of Indian-Americans to close schools, if they choose, in celebration of the holiday. According to the latest United States Census numbers, there were slightly over 279,000 Indian-Americans living in the Garden State.
