A new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll released Thursday morning shows a majority of visitors to Atlantic City do not plan on returning in the near future. Almost two-thirds of New Jerseyans said they believe Atlantic City’s best days are behind it. Of those surveyed, 52 percent said they had no intention of going to Atlantic City in the next 12 months. The Rutgers-Eagleton Poll also found that about half the resort’s tourists gamble during some of their visits, and just over 25 percent of those gamblers say they are more likely to visit out of state casinos. The poll also found that 25 percent view the city as a major convention and resort destination, while 63 percent believe the city is synonymous with gambling.
