The Middle Township Committee adopted a new ordinance against aggressive begging at their meeting on Monday. The ordinance prohibits solicitation by obstructing a pedestrian or vehicle, solicitation near an automated teller machine or bus or train stop, and solicitation in exchange for a service, such as window-washing. Beggars and other solicitors must obtain permits and are limited in areas where they can solicit money. Aggressive begging was defined as speaking to a person in a manner that would intimidate them or cause them to fear bodily harm.
