New Jersey rank worst when it comes to tax competitiveness. A new study done by the Tax Foundation ranked New Jersey last among all 50 states. New Jersey came in dead last for overall tax climate and property tax structure, third from last in individual income tax structure, and fourth from last in sales tax structure. The report measures how well-structured each state’s tax code is by analyzing over 100 tax variables in five different categories: corporate, individual income, sales, property, and unemployment insurance taxes.
