No surprise, the worst property taxes in the country are found in New Jersey. The Tax Foundation looked at Census data from 2004 to 2009 on property taxes for owner-occupied housing. New Jersey ranked last in median property taxes paid on homes, taxes as percentage of median home value, and taxes as percentage of income. The median property taxes during this study for the state were $6,579.
