New Jersey is among 18 states and the District of Columbia that has been named as a finalist for the “Race to the Top” program. This contest rewards states that creates high student achievement in new and improved ways. Positioning between the states was not announced. New Jersey had a late change to their application when Gov. Chris Christie said he would not accept an agreement that his own education commissioner worked out with the New Jersey Education Association.
