The state announced that audited returns show the New Jersey Lottery generated a record $2.63 billion in sales in Fiscal Year 2011 while delivering over $930 million in aid to education and institutions. These figures exceeded the Lottery’s sales in Fiscal Year 2010 and marked the fourth consecutive year its sales have crossed the $2.5 billion mark. Since it was created in 1970, it has generated more than $20 billion in support of programs such as: county college capital improvement initiatives; school nutrition efforts; the Marie Katzenbach School for the Deaf; the operation of centers for the developmentally disabled, state psychiatric hospitals and homes for veterans; higher education tuition and grants; and aid to colleges and universities.
