NEW CAPE MAY ORDINANCE TO CONFORM TO NEW FEMA FLOOD MAPS

Cape May City Council will hold a public hearing and council vote Tuesday afternoon on a new ordinance that will comply with the new FEMA flood advisory maps. Cape May officials have crafted the ordinance along with other shore communities to follow a model put forth by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. The ordinance will require higher building elevations in flood zones for new construction and home improvements that equal or exceed 50 percent of the building’s market value.
