On Tuesday, the Cumberland Family Shelter doubled it’s capacity, with the opening of a second building for residents searching for permanent housing. An executive with the Rural Development Corporation says that the new facility can house 56 people who are struggling with homelessness. The increased capacity allows the county to keep needy families in the shelter, rather than in hotels or shelters outside of Cumberland County. For the better part of the past year, there has been a waiting list for housing at the shelter.
