NEARLY 100 BLACK BEARS KILLED DURING NEW JERSEY’S FIRST HUNTING DAY

93 bears were killed by hunters during the first day of a six day bear hunt in northern New Jersey.  Most of the hunting was conducted in Sussex County.  Up to 10,000 permits were offered to hunters during this week’s hunt, but slightly more than 6,000 permits were picked up.  State officials believe this week’s hunt could net 250 bears for hunters.
