The Army National Guard Armory on the Garden State Parkway in Cape May Court House now has a new name. On Sunday the armory was dedicated to WWII Army pilot James F. Barkalow, who grew up in Wildwood. Barkalow was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and nine other air medals for his 177 combat bombing missions over North Africa and Europe. After the war, Barkalow returned to South Jersey and helped found the local Army National Guard Battalion and became it’s commander. Military personnel and local officials were in attendance to honor the local veteran.
