As the fall breeding season arrives, The Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife is urging motorists to be alert for white-tailed deer on local roadways. According to the DEP, deer become much more active during the peak mating season, that begins in mid-October and runs through November. Motorists are urged to be cautious especially attentive during the morning and evening commutes, as deer can unexpectedly dart across roadways. An insurance company study found that nearly 29,000 motor vehicle accidents in 2013 involved deer.
