On Monday swimmers in two coastal communities along the South Jersey shore were called out of the water due to shark sightings. NBC-10 reports that the Margate City Beach Patrol spotted a fin in the water off the Gladstone Avenue beach just before 1 p.m. Lifeguards rowed out to investigate and said a shark was apparently chasing a large school of fish nearby. No one was injured and swimmers were allowed back in the water one hour later. Also on Monday, bathers in Avalon were kept out of the water three times over two hours, along a six block area between 26th and 32nd Streets. The Avalon Beach Patrol reported seeing a 4-foot shark swimming in waist-deep water, and called swimmers out of the water as a precaution. No one was hurt in either incident.
