What could have been another serious brush fire was brought quickly under control on Tuesday near the Garden State Parkway. The Rio Grande Fire Company responded to a call by a passer-by to a small fire near the Southbound parkway overpass near Route 47 in Rio Grande. Firefighters were able to extinguish the small fire in about five minutes. Officials speculate that the cause of the blaze was a discarded cigarette from a passing motorist. No damage or injuries were reported.
